With no living family to support me, going ahead with a total hip replacement was so daunting. Mr Longstaff from the beginning of consultation to operation gave me confidence to have this done. Suffering badly from arthritis in both hips, the right side was replaced first on 29th May this year, being the worst. I could not have chosen to put my faith in a better surgeon and I can only thank Mr Longstaff for accepting me as his patient. Its now 7 weeks or so since my operation and the right side replacement is absolutely fine, in fact much better than I expected by way of after surgery performance. Pain free and confident in my new hip, I will be hoping for Mr Longstaff to replace my left hip in the not too distant future which will give me back a quality of life that was totally lost to arthritis. He has my complete faith and trust. I would not want anyone else to perform this operation for me and can not thank, or recommend him highly enough.

Given that I was facing up to an unexpected total hip replacement at a relatively young age, Mr Longstaff could not have done more to put me at ease, explain what was involved & prepare me. The operation itself was a complete success, helped in no small part by his methodology, choice of suitably appropriate replacement hip & his after-care attention. My arthritis will no doubt cause me to require further similar surgery in future, & I will certainly request that Mr Longstaff again performs any such procedure. Huge, if somewhat belated thanks, for giving me back my life.

Mr Longstaff operated to replace my left hip 3 1/2 years' ago. The operation was effective, the care I received faultless and Mr Longstaff was professional and reassuring. When the pain in my right hip became intense, I requested Mr Longstaff to perform the surgery. My recovery time from this operation has been even shorter than last time.

My hip replacement operation went better than even my most optimistic expectations. From the minute that I came around after my operation the wound caused me no pain except when moving the joint and this has rapidly improved with exercise. The wound itself completely healed within a couple of weeks (at least on the outside) and the scar is amazingly neat. After 6 weeks I can walk comfortably without pain or the aid of sticks and I am able to perform exercises in the gymn on a daily basis. For the first time in 2 years I do not need to take painkillers and am looking forward to resuming golf in a few weeks. i could not fault the nursing or medical staff at Washington Spire Hospital and cannot thank Mr Longstaff enough for the superb job he did on my hip replacement.
